Pay Attention To Your Energy
If you’ve seen any of my Woosah Wednesday posts on Social Media, you may be familiar with the term and their purpose. I’ve decided to post them to my blog moving forward, so I’ll start with a quick definition and recap.
Definition – The slang term woosah is often used to describe the feeling of relief or calmness in the midst of chaos. In other words, it’s the opposite of feeling stressed out.
A few months back, as another Hump Day Wednesday rolled around, I decided that the negative energy around Hump Day wasn’t something I wanted to associate with Wednesdays anymore, so I set out to flip the script. And while Wednesdays still tend to be my busiest day of the week, my new Woosah Wednesday practice has trained me to look at them from a different perspective. And, more importantly, to stop and breathe if I feel like things are getting out of control.
For today’s Woosah Wednesday post I’d like to focus on energy – both good and bad. As you make your way through the rest of the week, pay attention to your energy with each task, meeting, activity, etc. you complete.
While a successful and productive workday should leave you a bit tired, it should not leave you feeling completely drained. And as we all know, too many draining days strung together often lead to burnout. Paying attention to your energy around your key weekly activities is the first step to shifting your mindset and maybe even your to do list for better end results.
If there’s a task you can’t stand doing, consider delegating it to another member of your team if possible. Or find a way to pair it with something you do enjoy to make it less painful. Conversely, if there is something that you love to do and energizes you, but you haven’t made enough time for it in the past few weeks, block out the time in your calendar now, set a reminder, and honor it when it goes off.
Being a business owner is hard work, but as we’re all heard before, the true key to success is to work smarter. So pay attention to your energy this week and then make the needed adjustments to end your week feeling a little bit tired, but in a good way. 😎 😴
